Water-Soluble Filament GEMBIRD PVA 1.75 mm
PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) filament from GEMBIRD is a specialised support material for 3D printing. This water-soluble material allows you to print complex models with overhangs and cavities that would otherwise be impossible to produce. After printing, support structures can be easily dissolved in water, ensuring a clean and professional result without the need for mechanical removal of supports.
Main Advantages
Easy Support Removal
- Completely soluble in water at room temperature
- Leaves no marks or damage on the main model
- Dissolving process can be accelerated using warm water (40-50°C)
Compatibility
- Ideal combination with PLA, PETG and other common filaments
- Suitable for dual-extruder 3D printers
- Good adhesion to most printing materials
Practical Applications
- Printing complex models with overhangs
- Production of functional prototypes
- Architectural models with fine details
- Printing mechanical parts with cavities
Technical Parameters
- Filament diameter: 1.75 mm
- Diameter tolerance: ±0.05 mm
- Spool weight: 1 kg
- Material density: 1.19-1.31 g/cm³
- Glass transition temperature: 85°C
Recommended Printing Settings
- Nozzle temperature: 180-200°C
- Bed temperature: 50-60°C
- Print speed: 30-60 mm/s
- Layer height: 0.1-0.3 mm
- Cooling: 50-100%
- Retraction: 4-6 mm
Storage and Maintenance
PVA filament is highly hygroscopic, so it requires careful storage and maintenance:
- Store in a dry place at room temperature and protect from direct sunlight and high humidity.
- Keep the filament in a resealable airtight container or bag, ideally with a desiccant such as silica gel beads.
- For effective protection and drying, you can use a filament dryer PolyDryer.
- If moisture is absorbed dry the filament at 40–45 °C for 4–6 hours.
Practical Printing Tips
- Make sure the filament is sufficiently dry before printing
- For optimal results, use an enclosed print chamber
- Set a minimal distance between supports and the model for easier dissolution
- After printing, immerse the model in water at 40-50°C for faster support removal
- You can speed up dissolution by gently moving the water or replacing it with clean water
Ecological Aspect
PVA is a biodegradable material that dissolves completely in water. The resulting solution is environmentally safe and can be disposed of via the sewage system. When disposing of larger amounts of material, follow local waste disposal regulations.
