Spectrum FlameGuard ASA 275
Flame-Retardant ASA Filament for Demanding Applications
Spectrum FlameGuard ASA 275 is a specialised technical material for FDM 3D printing, designed to meet the stringent flame retardancy requirements according to UL 94 V0 classification. This means that the material is self-extinguishing. This filament is based on the proven Spectrum ASA 275 material, known for its UV resistance and weather resistance, temperature resistance and ease of printing. The FlameGuard version retains these key properties and adds certified fire safety, making it an ideal choice for specific industrial, automotive or electronic applications where safety comes first.
In addition, the optimised ASA 275 composition significantly simplifies the printing process. The material exhibits improved flow properties, minimal shrinkage and excellent interlayer adhesion. This makes printing with FlameGuard ASA 275 comparably easy to printing with regular PLA and allows for high printing speeds (up to 200 mm/s) without loss of quality, even on desktop printers without a closed heated chamber.
Key Properties
- Flame Retardancy (UL 94 V0): Certified self-extinguishing enhances the safety of final parts.
- Resistance to UV Radiation and Weathering: Excellent resistance for outdoor applications and parts exposed to sunlight.
- Easy Printing: Printing parameters comparable to PLA, low shrinkage and excellent layer adhesion.
- Can be printed without a heated chamber: Filament can be successfully printed on standard desktop 3D printers.
- Good Mechanical Properties: Combines flexibility with solid strength and stiffness.
- High Temperature Resistance: HDT 85°C, Vicat 94°C.
- Glossy Surface: Printed parts have an attractive glossy surface.
Areas of Use
- Functional prototypes and end-use parts requiring fire resistance.
- Components for the automotive and marine industries.
- Electrical enclosures and equipment housings.
- Manufacturing tools and fixtures (tooling).
- Parts intended for outdoor use or exposed to UV radiation.
- Non-standard components and custom parts.
Technical Specifications
- Material: ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) - FlameGuard modification
- Diameter: 1.75 mm (Tolerance ± 0.05 mm)
- Weight: 250 g
- Flame Retardancy: UL 94 V0
- Printing Temperature (Nozzle): 220 - 260 °C (manufacturer's recommendation, may vary depending on the printer)
- Bed Temperature: 40 - 70 °C
- Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT): 85 °C
- Vicat Softening Temperature: 94 °C
Recommendations for Printing
- To ensure good adhesion to the bed, keep the bed clean and degreased.
- If necessary, standard adhesives (glue, spray) can be used.
- Printing is also possible without a closed chamber, but for large models or to minimise odour during printing, a closed chamber may be advantageous.
- Store filament in a dry environment (ideally 15-25°C) and in a closed container with a moisture absorber.
Packaging
The filament is wound on a transparent plastic spool, vacuum-packed together with a moisture absorber and supplied in the original Spectrum Filaments cardboard box. Each spool contains information about the type of material, diameter and recommended printing temperature.
Why Choose Spectrum FlameGuard ASA 275?
This filament is an ideal choice for projects where emphasis is placed on fire safety (UL 94 V0) and high resistance to UV radiation and weathering is also required. Thanks to its ease of printability, comparable to PLA, it is suitable for both professional applications in industry or electronics and for more demanding hobby printers looking for a reliable and safe material for functional parts exposed to harsh conditions.
