Spectrum PC CF 1.75mm Filament – Polycarbonate Strength, Carbon Rigidity
Spectrum PC CF is an engineering material that combines the composition of PC 275 polycarbonate with a 10% carbon fibre admixture. The result is a filament with high mechanical properties, designed for printing parts that must withstand loads, high temperatures, and demanding operating conditions. The addition of carbon fibres increases the material's rigidity and strength while also improving its dimensional stability and resistance to deformation.
The material is modified for low shrinkage (low-warp technology). This allows for printing even larger models with a reduced risk of warping, even without the need for a heated printing chamber. The printed parts have a matte surface, suitable for functional prototypes, end-use parts, and industrial tooling.
Recommendation: Due to the abrasive nature of carbon fibres, it is necessary to use a hardened steel or ruby nozzle for printing this material. A standard brass nozzle would wear out very quickly. A nozzle diameter greater than 0.4 mm (e.g., 0.5 mm or 0.6 mm) is also recommended to allow the fibres to pass through.
Properties for Engineering Applications
Mechanical and Thermal Resistance
This material is designed for parts that operate in demanding conditions.
- High strength and rigidity: The 10% carbon fibre content reinforces the structure and increases the modulus of elasticity.
- High impact resistance: It retains the toughness of the base polycarbonate for parts subjected to impact loads.
- Heat resistance of 150 °C: The Vicat softening point is 150 °C (HDT B 140 °C), which allows for use near heat sources.
- UV resistance: The material is suitable for outdoor applications where it is exposed to sunlight.
Dimensional Stability and Printing
- Low-shrinkage technology: Reduces the risk of deformation and detaching from the build plate during printing.
- Can be printed without a heated chamber: Allows for use on a wider range of 3D printers.
- Resistance to moisture and chemicals: Provides reliable performance in industrial environments.
Recommended Applications
- Functional prototypes for testing in real-world conditions.
- Manufacturing tools and fixtures (jigs & fixtures).
- Mechanical components subjected to high loads (e.g., gears, brackets).
- Components for the automotive industry and motorsport.
- Durable casings for electronic devices.
- Sports equipment and drone parts.
