Resistance temperature detectors (RTD) are very similar in operation to thermistors. However, instead of a semiconductor, they are made of metals, usually platinum, copper or nickel. The most commonly used types in 3D printers are the PT1000 and PT100.
PT100 are high-temperature temperature sensors with high accuracy that can be used e.g. on V6 Hot Ends instead of conventional thermistors. PT100 sensors can measure higher temperatures than thermistors up to 450 °C and are generally more accurate, as well as being more accurate than the commonly used PT1000 sensors. The offered PT100 is very easy to handle as it utilizes a metal housing design.
