Fiberlogy ABS+GF Filament
For printers looking for a material with properties exceeding standard ABS, Fiberlogy ABS+GF presents another option. By adding glass fibres to the ABS matrix, a structural material with improved mechanical properties was created. This filament is designed for creating parts where high rigidity, tensile strength, and dimensional accuracy are key, even at higher operating temperatures.
Unlike standard ABS, which is prone to shrinkage, the GF variant offers better dimensional stability and less warping. This facilitates the printing of large and complex parts that must maintain precise dimensions. Thanks to its matte surface, which effectively hides the layers, your prints will have a professional appearance. These features make it a suitable choice for printing stressed parts for 3D printers, jigs & fixtures, or final products for the automotive and engineering industries.
Mechanical Properties on Par with Engineering Plastics
Glass fibres enhance the properties of this material compared to common filaments.
- High rigidity and strength: With a tensile modulus of 3500 MPa and a flexural strength of 70 MPa, this material is suitable for parts that must not flex under load and must maintain their shape.
- High impact and temperature resistance: Thanks to a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 90°C (at 0.45 MPa) and high impact strength, the parts retain their properties even in demanding conditions.
- Wear resistance: The material is suitable for printing parts exposed to friction and mechanical wear, such as various bushings or gears.
Printing and Processing for Technical Applications
Although printing is easier than with standard ABS, this is a technical material that requires a specific approach.
- High material abrasiveness: Glass fibres are highly abrasive. For printing, it is necessary to use a hardened steel, ruby, or other abrasion-resistant nozzle. A standard brass nozzle would wear out quickly.
- Matte surface: Prints have an aesthetic matte finish that masks the individual layers well and gives the parts a professional look.
- Work safety: During post-processing (sanding, drilling), it is recommended to use protective equipment (goggles, respirator) to prevent inhalation of dust particles from the glass fibres.
