Composite filaments - Filament material - ASA
Composite filaments are special materials for 3D printing that combine a base polymer (most commonly PLA, PETG, Nylon, PC or ABS) with additional fibers or particles. These additives can be carbon fibers, kevlar, glass fibers, wood particles or metal powder.
The main characteristics of composite filaments include:
- Enhanced mechanical properties: Increased strength, stiffness and wear resistance.
- Lower shrinkage: Prints are more dimensionally stable.
- Unique appearance and texture: Especially for filaments filled with wood or metal.
- Lower weight: While maintaining strength, prints are often lighter than those made from pure polymer.
Composite filaments find applications in industrial design, the automotive industry, aviation and in the production of functional prototypes. They are ideal for printing parts that require high strength, low weight or a specific appearance.
When printing with these materials, it is important to use hardened nozzles due to their abrasive properties. It is also necessary to consider the possibility of more frequent nozzle clogging and the need to adjust print settings to achieve optimal results.
